AM-GTのチェーンが切れた!
田貫湖へサイクリングへ出掛けた日曜日、田貫湖まであと700mってところでなんとAM-GTのチェーンが切れるというトラブルに見舞われる。なんてこったい。バス・電車輪行で富士まで戻り、いつもの自転車店へ。電車の中から店を見ると丁度店の前にワゴンが停めてあり、鍵を閉めている様子。まずいぞ、急がなくっちゃ。
すると、店は閉まっているどころか中には先客、そして新しいピカピカのMTB。どうやらさっき電車から見えたのはお客さんが自転車を車で持ち込んでいたところだったらしい。ん? この人どっかで見た事あるなぁ、と思っていたら近所の軽虎43くった。9月の狩野川100kmサイクリングの前日に偶然お店で一緒になっていた方で、今日は新しいMTBの調整をしてもらいに来ていた。久しぶり。彼のバイクは「これってMTBなの?」と思ってしまった程、細いフレームでなかなか格好良い。そして軽い。聞けば、KHS F20Rと大して変わらない重さぢゃないですか。MTBといえば重くてごついイメージを抱いていたのだけど、こんなにスマートなバイクもあるんだぁ、と少し価値感が変わった。ちなみにフロントフォークだけで＞KHS F20R。彼はこれで冬のボーナスがふっ飛んだらしいぞ。だけどやっぱり新車を前に非常に嬉しそう。
そして肝心のAM-GTのチェーン。もともとDURA-ACEの8段用HGチェーンがついていたので同じものをと考えていたのだけど、在庫が無かった。ちなみにDURA-ACEの9段用HGチェーンなら在庫があったらしいが、既にそれは軽虎43くんのMTBにしっかりとついていた。聞けば、DURA-ACEの現行ラインナップには8段用コンポはないから8段用HGチェーンを注文しても手に入らないかもしれないらしい。どうしたもんかな。対処方法について相談してみようと貸主に電話してみるのだけれど不在。しばらくしてもう1回電話してみても不在だったので留守電にメッセージを残す。
「すいませんっ、チェーン切っちゃいましたっ！」
とりあえずシマノのMTB用コンポ・XTRの8段用IGチェーンが在庫であったので、歯トビが心配だけど試しにつけてみることに。すると、なんとかなっちゃった。ちゃんと走る。ひとまずはコレで無事帰宅。事の経緯を貸主さんにメールで報告、ご本人の了承をもらったのでしばらくはこれでいくことになった。優しいお言葉、まったく痛み入ります。
ところで、2回とも電話に出られなかった貸主さん。きっと忙しいんだね、でもメールだったらなんだかすぐ返事がきそうぢゃない?なんて話していたんだけど、帰宅後メールをしたらホントにすぐに返事がきたので2人で笑い転げたことは実は内緒です。
わたくし、今回は端で見ていてチェーンの勉強をする良い機会になりました。以下、初心者的メモ。
- チェーンにはMTB用とロード用があって、よく聞くDURA-ACEっていうのはロード用のプロクラスのコンポーネントの種類。
- チェーンにはHGチェーンとIGチェーンがあり、HGはHyper Graid、IGはInteractive Graidの略で、シマノの9段はHG規格、8段はIG規格。
- なんで規格が違うかというと、ギアの段数が多いとギア同士の間隔が狭く薄くなるので、その分チェーンの幅も細くなる。ということは、IG規格よりもHG規格の方が細い。
- チェーンは消耗品で、長く使うと変速機をきちんと調整していてもスムーズに変速しなくなることがあるので注意。走行条件にもよるだろうけど2,000Kmくらい走ったら交換（?）

軽寅43さん、あんときはどうも。その時そんな軽くない様な事言ったのですが、フレームの細さから完全にロードのつもりで話してました、フロントフォークの事考えたらあり得ない位軽いですね。
チェンに関しては、チェンが慣れれば大丈夫な気がしてます。
僕も貧乏人です。あくまで借り物ですから。
AM-GTは、デュラの９速用チェンでも問題なく動きますぜ。
歯飛びはトップ側（９Ｔ側）？それともロー側（２８Ｔ側）？
ロー側だったら２５Ｔあたりだと思う。
トップ側だったら９−１０−１１Ｔのセットだと思うけどね。
トップ側の１０Tが飛びやすいようです。
デュラの９速は、上の軽虎43さんの黒森MTBに既に装着されていました。まあ、そちらは今のXTRのコンポでしたので僕が先に着いていたら逆に残念な事に成っていたかもですね。
その時点で在庫があったのはアルテグラの９速以下だったので、XTRの８速の方が好いかなと。登山仕様ですし。

それでもどうしても歯が飛ぶようだったら、
大分使い込んでいるリムとハブなんで、
ＢＳモールトンのリムにデュラかカプレオで組んで、
